Texas Hold ‘em Strategy III

September 24th, 2008

Two very important strategies that can be effectively used in a Texas Hold ‘em game are slowplaying and dealing with tilt. Slowplaying takes place when a player has a very advantageous hand but he doesn’t let his opponents know that so that they would stay in hand and help build up the pot. So, if the player had a pair of king cards as his hole cards and the flop turns out to be a king and a pair of 3, the player now has a full house. If he expresses his advantage of hand strength in anyway, it would mean his opponents folding as there is little probability for anyone to draw a better hand than him. It is advisable that the players involve in slowplaying and take the game to the river round so that the pot gets built up with bets and raises. Therefore the thing to remember before indulging in the strategy of slowplay is to ascertain that the player has a made hand that can not be bettered by any drawing hand in subsequent rounds and even at showdown.

Limiting or eliminating one’s tendency to go on tilt is an essential strategy in any poker game, Texas Hold ‘em being no exception. So, if the player has a jack and queen of spades and the flop cards are ace, queen and 10 of hearts and much betting action is still remaining, the player should know when to call it quits and fold his hand. It would be foolish and a losing proposition if he goes on tilt and tries to win the pot desperately and hope to catch a king out and also hoping none of his opponents has a flush hand. If it is not possible for a player to completely avoid being on tilt, he must deal with the situation judiciously and absent himself from the game for sometime or he may end up losing heavily.
